The best strategy for taking Subject tests is to take them right after you’ve taken the subject in school!  In other words, as soon as you’ve finished French and did well, sign up to take that test!  It’s fresh in your mind and you want to make sure you do well on the test!

It doesn’t matter if it’s before or after the SAT, but you cannot take them on the same day as the SAT. So plan accordingly! You can see a schedule of SAT and Subject Test Dates here:

We recommend you take them as early as possible to get them out of the way. In general, we suggest taking you SAT or ACT in your Sophomore year or early on in your Junior year. Then, you can knock out your Subject tests right after that.
